Presenting Your Accomplishments

Once you have defined the general skills that you bring to the company, it is time to demonstrate the application of these skills to solve problems. An example of the Accomplishments Section of your resume is

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Studied the 3-D structure and molecular electronic properties of alpha-2 agonists & antagonists, brain NOS inhibitors, and channel antagonists using ab initio, semiempirical, molecular mechanics, and conformational analysis techniques. Also utilized the Active Analog Approach (Receptor) and CoMFA to develop selective pharmacophore models for the brain NOS inhibitors program. Models were used to guide compound development efforts.

  • Examined the conformational flexibility of the peptide motilin and analogs using molecular mechanics and molecular dynamics techniques.

  • Developed pharmacophore models for the alpha-2 project which incorporated steric, hydrophobic, and electrostatic components. Models were used to guide compound development efforts.

  • Developed pharmacophore models for the channel antagonist project team using DISCO, CoMFA, Catalyst techniques.

  • Defined technical directions, staffed a group of 15 professionals and consultants, supervised the performance of employees, established new areas of scientific computing for the Research Department, and proposed and managed an annual budget of $4.0 million.

  • Successfully utilized de novo design of non-peptide ligands based on NMR solution structure model.

  • Managed the design and implementation of a drug metabolism (ADME) data collection and reporting system (LIMS) under strict GLP guidelines.

  • Utilized multi-step synthesis skills to prepare new chemical entities for testing as novel therapeutic agents. Promoted two compounds into clinical trials for inflammatory diseases.

  • Developed solid phase organic synthesis (SPOS) procedures for the preparation of split-and-pool combinatorial libraries

  • Conceived, published, and managed the first WWW-based publication, NetSci, which provides information and scientific articles focused on pharmaceutical research, clinical trials, and product development and their potential impact on disease management.

Accomplishments Section

Note that each of the bulleted items relays the application of specific skills to a specific problem. Each description also contains both proactive words (e.g., managed, defined, studied, utilized, successfully ...) as well as vocabulary for the area (e.g., multi-step synthesis, solid phase organic synthesis, combinatorial libraries, de novo design, pharmacophore, ab initio, semiempirical, molecular mechanics, conformational analysis, NMR ...). It is good practice to use these "triggers" since each resume will be examined by staffing professionals, departmental managers, and possibly, a computerized resume screening program.
