The International Society of Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology (ISRTP), founded in 1984, is dedicated to promoting education and regulatory consensus based upon sound science and open information exchange among scientists, governmental regulators, industry and the general public. Through its programs, ISRTP seeks to identify and promote improvements in the scientific basis for regulatory decisions and in the ways biological and chemical knowledge is used as the foundation for regulatory actions in the areas of health and environmental safety. The foundation of the ISRTP programs is the understanding of health and safety issues and the development of universal criteria from which achievable goals can be constructed. The Society's programs encourage effective decision-making in light of the three essential elements of public health and safety debate: science, ethics and economics. These educational programs are a significant voice in the development of rational health and safety regulations.
